Failed to read pictures

Post by jcj2249 » Tue Jul 04, 2017 6:14 pm

I have two cameras : an imager camera ZWO ASI1600MC-C and a guider camera ZWO ASI120MC-S.
My imager and my guider are connected to AstroImager and to AstroGuider.
But when I try to capture I get the following messages : "Failed to capture frames" and "Failed to read pixels"
Where is the problem ? Thanks.

Hello, both cameras should work, but possible reason is, that firmware in your camera is not compatible with SDK included in AstroImager.

Can you try it with INDIGO based version 3.0? You can download it from here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=80&start=20#p530

I have almost the same image "pack": ASI 1600 MC (2nd version, with usb hub) cooled and ASI 120 MM for guiding... Lastest drivers from ZWO and zero problems...

Yes, 2nd version of 1600 seems to use different firmware and doesn't work with older SDK used by AstroImager 2.x. But it should work with 3.0 or later. Peter

Both of my cameras are now working : the problem was due to my (too complex) USB connexion between my permanent scope setup and my computer.
This setup includes three USB hubs and several meters of cable to establish a link between my scope, a focuser, two cameras and my computer.
I will study the problem more precisely and will report the results here. This might help some users.
An interesting point is that I get only problems with the INDI suite, not with TheSkyX (all my gear can connect).
I encounter also the same connexion problem with my Microtouch focuser : I can select it in AstroImager but it doesn't really connect.
Thanks for the replies.

The reason why it with some software does work and with another doesn't is that there are two different approaches how to fetch images. With video mode you can use USB 2.0 version of 120MM, but with exposure time limitation. With single exposure mode you can use only USB 3.0 version.

With AstroGuider you can configure it (Prefs -> Built-In drivers -> Use video mode).
