FCUSB

Post by anofeles » Mon Sep 25, 2017 5:16 pm

Hi, everybody.
I know -thanks for that- that AI has FCUSB indi support. I use it and it works fine. My question is: DC focus motors don't provide absolute positioning repeatability like a stepper motor does, but any programs have the possibility for autofocusing with FCUSB and obtained more than decent results...
Could it be that AstroImager also have that capability?

Regards and thanks for all...
Carlos.

Hi Carlos,

yes, AI has INDIGO FCUSB driver and it doesn't support absolute position. Moreover it has variable speed, so even time based positioning can't be generally used. But autofocus used by AI doesn't need it anyway. It focuses the similar way as man will do. Moving in one direction until image "quality" based on peak value, FWHM and HFD gets better and than switch direction. It repeats this until some threshold is reached.

Regards, Peter

Excuse my bad English.
What I really meant was whether the autofocus routine also supports DC motors or only with stepper motor focussing.
Thanks in advance...

Oh yes, it works with virtually any focuser, with stepper or DC motor. Peter
