ZWO EAF driver crash

Post by iMustBcrazy »

I just added a ZWO EAF focuser to my setup but could not test it directly with my Mac running Big Sur (11.4). (I tried with my normal setup using indigosky (2.0-150) on a RPi and this was successful - tested the auto focus successfully.)

On the Mac, both AstroImager and Indigo Server (with EAF driver loaded) crashed when I plugged in the EAF. If the driver was not loaded, then there was no crash - i.e., crash as in AI or Indigo server disappeared.

Indigo server version is 4.0-604, AI version is 4.0-603

Of course I could not get any kind of log for this problem.

EDIT: I should point out that using ASI Studio v1.4 on the Mac did not have a problem.

Is it a new EAF? We're aware of this issue and I reported it to ZWO about week ago, but not reply yet.

Yes. I forgot to mention it’s the new 5V that operates off USB power - very convenient!

I just updated to a new MacBook Air with M1 processor, so now I get this error when I try to enable the EAF Focuser driver:

"11:43:29.579 Driver indigo_focuser_asi is not supported on M1 processors, run the application in Rosetta to use it"

How are low level drivers like this handled with the M1 ?

Some software development kits provided by hardware vendors are for Intel architecture only, so that drivers will not work on M1 natively. For now the workaround is to run whole application in Rosetta. It is slightly slower, but not much slower than on Intel I5 machine. The real bottleneck with Rosetta is USB bandwidth, so you may experience much slower possible framerates etc.

Find the application in Finder, right-click > Get Info... and select Open using Rosetta.

Normally I work with the Indigosky but this will help check things out beforehand. Thanks Peter!
